Ylä-Porkkala Farm

Jämsän sydän logo“Our farm dates back to the 1700s, when the first rows were hoed in Koskenpää, Central Finland.”

The Ylä-Porkkala Farm was renowned for its animal husbandry, fertile fields and high-quality lumber. The farm has undergone numerous changes over the years, the biggest of which was discontinuing its livestock operations in 1988, when the original cowshed, built in the 1870s, had reached the end of its useful life. This changed paved the way for developing post-processing operations and expanding into new areas of production.

In 1992, the new operation got off to a flying start, with Ylä-Porkkala Farm products being sold at Urpon Peruna ja Vihannes in Jämsä and Osuuskauppa Keskimaan Mestarin Herkku in Jyväskylä. The farm also had a stand in the Jyväskylä market hall from its earlier days. It maintained the stand until the mid-2000s. The farm continued its expansion, which was further helped by increased public interest in locally-produced food in the mid-2000s, thus giving the farm’s produce a higher profile. In 2014, the farm was handed down from one generation to the next, when the parents turned the helm over to their son, Johan Porkkala.

“Here at Ylä-Porkkala, we’re working every day to develop our production operations with heart and soul, without compromising on the genuine flavour of our produce. We are proud of the history of our family farm and continue the invaluable work of our predecessors in cherishing the traditional production of local food so that future generations will also be able to enjoy the renowned flavour of Ylä-Porkkala produce.” Ylä-Porkkala Farm produces, among other things, berry juices, homemade mead and traditional Christmas casseroles made of the finest locally-produced ingredients. All products are made without additives in the farm’s own production facility, using genuine recipes handed down through generations of the Porkkala family.
