The first-ever Jämsä Sauna Day was celebrated on June 5, 2024. The event was part of the broader 9th Central Finland Sauna Region Week and the World Sauna Forum event.

The international and in many ways very warm sauna day in Himos-Jämsä was full of joyful encounters and, of course, the delight of sauna, bathing and swimming.

11 different sauna locations participated, and the offerings were extremely plentiful: smoke saunas, tent saunas, barrel saunas, steam saunas, wood-fired saunas, lakeside saunas, electric saunas, and even a sauna boat pampered visitors throughout the entire Himos-Jämsä area.

The magic of Finnish sauna culture

“This is for all senses,” sighed one satisfied bather. That is probably the magic and essence of Finnish sauna culture. The smell of the smoke sauna, the song of a chaffinch in a nearby tree, the wonderfully refreshing breeze, and a melting ice lolly in hand make it hard to disagree. The swimming waters were very warm for the time of year, but according to reports, the dip was still refreshing. And then it was time to return to the warmth of the sauna!

An international, Finnish, and above all, very Jämsä event

Participants came not only from Finland but also from Canada, Norway, and Germany, among other places. Various locations were enjoyed by influencers, World Sauna Forum attendees, sauna and heat masters, caravanners, locals and visitors, entrepreneurs, and outright sauna enthusiasts. Many of them toured several locations throughout the day, testing different saunas and swimming waters.

“At least I’m clean!” remarked one cheerful visitor climbing onto the benches of their fourth sauna.

Local services were excellently available at each location: traditional sauna attendants, pampering treatments, luxury towels, small snacks, and drinks. And birch whisks, of course!

Thanks to all the sauna locations and participants – hopefully, we’ll meet again next year!
